MaFest 2010 Promotion Begins!

And boy does it ever.

All the new people coming to see me for the first time because I mention Risso: hi! This post is about the best regional comic book festival “MaFest”, held annually in Makarska, Croatia. Next year, it will be the five year anniversary, and they have a line up of all-stars for all the visitors to meet. Let’s see who’s coming…

First off, the man of the hour, Eduardo Risso! The artist who’s amassed an immense following of comic book fans right here in our corner of the World with titles such as “100 Bullets” and his work on Batman and Wolverine, has done an amazing job at designing the first official festival poster for 2010. AND it will be the first poster printed in both B/W and color (done by the local colorist extraordinaire Matt Hollingsworth)! AND you can see it right here! How awesome am I? Errrr, moving along…

But there’s more, because the great people behind MaFest don’t let your time in Makarska be spent on just one star. Following this year’s line up of Nathan Never artists and writers, next year will see the arrival of another great artist: Ivo Milazzo, co-creator and the main artist of the Italian cult comic book “Ken Parker“, and so many other titles that’re too numerous to list, so here’re just a few published locally: “Tiki”, “Man from the Philippines”, “Marvin the Detectiv” and my favorite, “Tom’s Bar“.

And the list goes on: Enrique Sanchez Abuli from Spain (the man behind Torpedo… Torpedo I tell you!), Pasquale Frisenda (Italy), Zoran Janjetov (Serbia), Goran Parlov (Croatia)… and the list is NOT finished. We can expect even more surprises in the coming months before the event itself on 20th – 23rd May 2010.

I guess I found something to update regularly about in the coming months (since the official festival web site doesn’t have an English version yet), and hope to get this blog on the google whenever someone searches for Makarska in English from now on.
